The development of the format

Industry meets Makers was initiated by Sandra Stromberger in 2014/15 and has been successfully organised in cooperation with strong network partners and a small team for 9 years in a row since 2016. In years 1 to 3, the majority of the events took place primarily in Vienna and the surrounding area. In year 4, the activities were extended to other regions of Austria under the motto #IMMgoesWEST and #IMMgoesSOUTH by linking various stations of the kick-off series with a large-scale speed dating train action and starting local community building processes. The years 5 and 6 brought a complete virtualisation of the format due to the special COVID-19 challenges, which at the same time made it easier for international participants to take part in the process. From the 7th year onwards, local, hybrid and virtual event formats were mixed depending on the objectives and line-up. The first local network partners from neighbouring countries were also gradually added, rolling out the format in their region. Under the motto #bringIMMtoyourCITY, we want to systematise and further expand this concept in the coming years.
