The development of the format

Industry meets Makers was initiated by Sandra Stromberger in 2014/15 and has been successfully organized for nine consecutive years since 2016 – in close cooperation with strong network partners and a dedicated core team. During the first three years, most events took place in Vienna and its surrounding areas. In year four, the format was expanded to other Austrian regions under the mottos #IMMgoesWEST and #IMMgoesSOUTH: the kick-off series was linked by a large-scale speed dating train action, while local community-building processes were launched.
In years five and six, the program went fully digital due to the challenges of COVID-19 – which at the same time made it easier for international participants to join. Since year seven, we have been combining local, hybrid, and virtual event formats depending on the objectives and line-up.

Our 10th anniversary edition will, for the first time, take place in parallel in Austria and Slovakia – from December 4, 2025, to May 7, 2026 – as part of the EU-funded Twin City Hub. Based on the experience gained during these activities, we aim to further expand Industry meets Makers in the coming years. Under the motto #BringIMM2yourCity, other local organizers and innovation communities will be invited to adopt the concept in their own regions.
